Celebrating Women in Education and IT With ed/it women co.

Last month, I had the honour of attending the inaugural High Tea for Women in IT at the beautiful Primus Hotel, Sydney, hosted by ed/it women co., a community that seeks to improve the number of women in the ed tech space to increase influence on girls' involvement in STEM studies and careers. ed/it women co. founders and directors are from Pymble Ladies’ College, St. Ignatius’ College Riverview, and Wenona School—all institutions we’re proud to count as Canvas clients.

The event aimed to celebrate the success of women working in education and IT by providing a social opportunity for networking, sharing and learning. Instructure sponsored a table to support this meaningful initiative. About 50+ women as well as a handful of men attended, primarily from the K-12 sector, with some tertiary and associated government and industry representatives. A bigger event next year—doubling this size—was also announced for March 2019.

Instructure builds strong partnerships with organizations that promote diversity in the workplace and build skills for the future workforce including Girls Go Digital and the Women Tech Council. We also took the ElevateHER Challenge from the Women’s Leadership Institute and the Parity Pledge, committing to do more to hire and develop female leaders.
